The Horatio Alger Association announced on December 5, 2017, that Gregory E. Abel, then chairman, president and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, would receive its 2018 award. The Association’s member page for Gregory E. Abel, Class of 2018, repeats that identity and later titles him president and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Berkshire Hathaway’s 2026 definitive proxy, in Abel’s director biography, states: “Mr. Abel is a current director and Chairman Emeritus of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc.” That is a Berkshire primary on the officer relationship.
The Association’s public Form 990 for tax year 2023 (EIN 13-1669975) lists Gregory E. Abel as President (uncompensated). ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer for the same EIN shows the same officer line across recent years. Combined with the Association’s 2017 release naming BHE’s Gregory E. Abel and Berkshire’s 2026 proxy naming the same man Chairman Emeritus and a current director, this site treats the 990 “President” line as the same person. Titles can change; the identity does not look uncertain once those three records are read together.
